Can I afford to join my husband in retirement and enjoy more time together?

Lynda Croome is a Chartered Financial Planner and Independent Financial Adviser with over 30 years’ experience. Her first goal is to understand your objectives so that she can work with you to build a financial plan to realise your future vision. In this consultative process, she draws out what is important to you, learning about your financial position and priorities to establish and recommend your next move.

My client in her early 60s has a successful, established business. For many years, she has thrived on working in it, and she still enjoys it. But in the last couple of years she’s been torn between her work and her already retired husband, finding it difficult to balance the needs of her business and the desire to join him in simply enjoying life.

The couple still had a small mortgage, and she was concerned about making sure it was paid off before she retired, along with worrying about the impact on her pension savings if she retires before reaching 67.

By working through a financial plan with her, I was able to show her that not only could they afford to pay off the mortgage before she reaches state pension age, but she could actually afford to retire right now, and enjoy an early retirement with a clear financial conscience.

By speaking to an experienced independent financial adviser, many people not only gain clarity about their long-term financial goals, but also discover that they have more choices open to them than they realised.
