I’ve got a healthy public sector pension, why do I need financial advice?

My client and her husband, in their 50s, are both retired from public sector careers, with healthy pensions that allow them a comfortable lifestyle. As they are still young, they also have new careers; in my client’s case, that means running three businesses generating passive income, one of which funds her passion for travel.

She told me that she would love to get to a position where she didn’t need to work, but had struggled to find the advice that she needed.

Part of the issue was that the couple didn’t have large amounts of capital to meet the minimum asset values published by an increasing number of financial advisers.

The other reason my client was doubtful about whether an IFA could help her was a prior, negative experience with someone who was slow to respond, and only recommended financial products, without taking the time to understand her circumstances and objectives.
