Meet Nina Young, Talis IFA’s extra level of client-service

June 30, 2025

Nina has been part of the Talis team since November 2022. Although her official job title is Personal Assistant to our MD, James, and Senior IFA, Simon, she is so much more.

If you ever visit our Ashford headquarters, you’ll probably meet her, as she makes it her personal mission to give a warm welcome to everyone.

Nina says, “Obviously, I can’t offer financial advice, as I’m not an IFA, but there are many other ways I help our clients. As well as arranging appointments and making sure the right paperwork is sent out, I check documents for identity confirmation, and often sit with clients to help them make sure they’ve completed and signed everything in the right place, to avoid unnecessary delays later.

“Sometimes, people come in needing to talk to someone about a situation – but they don’t necessarily want to talk to an IFA. I’ve had clients come in feeling very emotional and vulnerable – after a bereavement, for example, or other serious life event. They need to talk to someone, and I can help by offering them an empathetic ear.”

She dips her toes into the recruitment process too – liaising with recruitment agencies and reviewing CVs when an opportunity arises within the support team at head office, making sure all due diligence is completed before finalising the paperwork when successful candidates are offered a position.

Nina also provides frontline IT support, to make sure our clients know how to access all their online documents.

“One of the ways we support our clients is through their secure client portal. It’s simple to use once you know how, but some people feel more comfortable once they’ve been talked through it. It’s really important to us that our clients feel confident with everything we provide, so offering a bit of IT support to anyone who needs it is something I really enjoy.”

Before joining Talis IFA, Nina had an IT background, and she’s making good use of it now, configuring new users’ PC’s, providing IT support and training to our IFAs across the country, and supporting our clients; making sure that everything is working properly and accessible. Although experienced with IT, she says, “I look at it from the perspective of a user, rather than an IT expert – and I get that many people don’t feel at home online, so I’ll always take the time to talk you through the steps, and I’m here on the end of a ‘phone if you have problems.”

Nina also keeps an eye on new enquiries, aiming to match new clients with an IFA local to them, in case they prefer to meet in person. She’ll follow up with a new client to check that they are happy speaking to an adviser, before putting them in touch with someone with the right expertise to help them.
